Wings + Horns

This online retailer is a great find.  Wings + Horns presents refreshingly simple menswear.  Their website’s about section sums up their approach nicely:

Originating between Vancouver and Tokyo, Wings+Horns was founded in 2004.  Inspired to combine Canadian elements with Japanese quality, Wings+Horns has established itself as a lifestyle brand that integrates its classic fits with a utilitarian style.

The clean, well-crafted aesthetic is even represented in their Fall 2012/Winter 2013 Lookbook.

These looks are great, and their entire website is full of on-trend (yet versatile) items.  Be sure to take a look around their site, and enjoy a few more sneak peeks below.

Hats

Hats are a classic, debonair way for a man to protect himself from the sun.  A smart-dressed man reaches for a hat on the way out the door as the simple, functional way to complete a look.  Many men say, “I’m not a ‘hat person’.”  This is false.  ‘Hat people’ are merely the people brave enough to wear them.   The key to looking your best in a hat (as with most clothing) is to focus on fit.  Tight-fitting hats shrink the head and can add the illusion of weight; loose-fitting hats can lend the wearer an unfortunate, Oliver Twist appearance.  Also remember that light colors are the only way to go in these warm summer months.  Browse some simple, straw fedoras from Banana Republic, and take cues from the following photos to inspire your own look.

Blazin’ Fresh

Men, just because it’s summer doesn’t mean that you can’t wear a jacket.  Pairing a lightweight blazer with shorts is a tried and true way to say, “I know it’s summer, but I still have style.”

There are a few more benefits to this dynamic wardrobe duo other than looking put together.  First of all, you probably already have all the pieces to the outfit; every man should have a few pairs of shorts and at least one lightweight blazer. Secondly, a jacket is a great way to look fresh in the heat.  If you are going to wear a single layer in the summer, you are going to sweat through it.  A layer on top actually hides embarrassing sweat marks and keeps you looking chipper – even in sweltering heat.

There are a few ways to pull off the blazer/shorts combo:

Alas! Are those cargo shorts? Camo cargo shorts?  Indeed they are.  Don’t be so stuffy!  Try this rough approach to boldly state, “I’m a man AND I care how I dress.”

Chubbies

Good shorts can be hard to find.  This fact led the guys at Chubbies to create their own line.  This entrepreneurial bunch embarked on a mission to design shorts that were comfortable, radical, and just a little shorter than normal.

Chubbies are manufactured in the San Francisco Bay area from locally sourced materials and finished with a rock wash to give them a super-soft, worn feel.  Now, these shorts may be comfortable, but they are definitely not for the faint of heart.  Chubbies style is funky, fresh, and irreverent.  Their Remember the 80’s line features ridiculously bright colors and names such as: “The Journeys”, “The Def Leps“, and  “The Hoffs”.

Adjusting to the colors may be an easy step for some, but adjusting to the length might prove difficult.  Chubbies pull inspiration for their inseams from the shorts of the 60s, 70s, and 80s.  Guys may not be accustomed to showing so much leg, but this is where the industry is headed.  Baggy, cargo shorts (thankfully) will not be seen in modern menswear for a while.

Check out the Chubbies site here.  Be brave, order a pair, and don’t expect their shorts to come anywhere near your knees.

Tied Up

Style is not expensive.

We believe that style is more about taste and confidence than price, so it’s refreshing to see a trend come along that is universally accessible.  This week’s menswear highlight is the neckerchief.  It’s hard to miss this accessory right now.  The neckerchief rose to popularity last summer, and it’s easy to see why it’s sticking around for the warmer months again.  This casual cousin of the ascot lends any look a dash of Cary Grant class.

In addition to stylishly complimenting your wardrobe, a cotton, washable bandana worn around the neck can easily save your collars from an unbecoming ring of dirt.

Rummage through your clothes drawers because the odds are that you already have this season’s ‘must-have’.  If you don’t have a neckerchief lying around (or you just want so see how to wear one), check out FineandDandyshop.com here.  Their site has some wonderful examples of this simple accessory.

Also, if you’re in Savannah be sure to come out to Florence & Millie’s Relaunch Party tonight at 6.  We’d love to see you there!

Dapper and Daring

Great news for those who appreciate a well-dressed man – menswear is here!   We are going to be highlighting men’s clothing more regularly on Florence & Millie, and we’re excited to start off on a very bright note.

Color is the story for spring and summer 2012!  Menswear has taken an uncharacteristically bold turn this season with vibrant hues for shorts, sweaters, jackets, tees, and khakis.

The British mainstay Burberry featured quite a bit of color in contrast to their usual, neutral palette.

Gucci took color in a nautical direction this season.  Red, white, blue, cream, and muted orange appear in solids and stripes for that easy, yacht-club feel.

Now, we love all the clothes these top designers produce, but Florence & Millie is about everyday inspiration.  The great news is that color has saturated almost every designer’s collection and made this look accessible for all.

J. Crew’s collection brightens up this season for all of us with their exciting hues and smart stripes.

We always love Gap, but these colored khaki’s are outstanding!

Seeing all of these colors may thrill you…or intimidate you.  If you fall into the latter category, we encourage you to at least give these hues a chance whether you are a man who cares about his clothing or you care about a man who wears clothing.  Remember that what you wear should be comfortable and fun!  Consider this season an opportunity to finger-paint with your wardrobe.  Relax.  Be daring.  Mix colors.  Have fun!

Fashion Trend: Bold Pants

So, it’s feeling like Spring here in Savannah, and all this basking in the warm weather has made us excited for Spring fashions!  One of our favorite things is this trend of pants as statement pieces!  We love how funky and fun effect of using patterns or crazy bright colors.  It’s a great way to make an outfit have some flare and personality!  Also, it’s a great excuse to pull out your neutral toned t-shirts without feeling boring.  Spice up your wardrobe and your life with some fun and funky pants instead another pair of blue jeans for the Spring, and see our favorites below!

Fall is Here: Women’s Fall Clothing

So, it’s finally gotten cold enough here in Savannah for us girls to break out our coats, scarves and really cool knit hats. We figured it would be a great time for us to talk about our favorite cold weather clothes.  Well, as far as fashion is concerned (because we all know it’s hard to beat the sheer warmth that the North Face provides) we hope this season you can be cute and warm.  Because who wants to be a big warm marshmallow when they could be a warm, cute person?  No one.  Okay, maybe your weird cousin from the Midwest, but for the rest of us city-folk, we want to be snazzy and warm instead of ski jacket pouf balls. So, in order to remain as classy as possible we’ve shared some of our favorite cold weather clothing.

First off, we have cowls!  Sometimes scarves can be totally frustrating, but never fear, cowls are here!  We have quite a few friends here in Savannah who have taken to knitting or crocheting their own cowls to keep warm this winter! We approve.

1. Up-cycled T-shirt Cowl by Luxe Fabric and Yarn  2. Cable Twisted Neck Scarf by GAP 3. Extra Long Cowl by Prairie Sparrow

And, secondly, we all need a good winter coat! And boy, did we luck out!  Check out these beautiful coats in fun, bright colors! We love that winter-wear isn’t just neutrals anymore, but we threw a neutral in there for you die-hard fans.1. Misty Harbor Trench Coat by You Wanna Talk About It 2. Double-cloth Chesapeake Coat by J. Crew 3.  Blue If by Sea by Modcloth

Men’s Fall Clothing

Okay men, prepare yourselves.  We’ve made a post just for you!  I know, it’s hard to believe.  But you spoke, and we listened.  We put together a quick little sampling of some of our favorite cold weather goodness that we love to see our men sporting!  So, please, make your wardrobe easy on the eyes, and check out our suggestions!  It’s almost like we took you shopping ourselves.

Let’s get started with hats!  There are so many options so we selected a few, but our personal favorite out of these three would be the tweed driver hat.

1. Knitted Cap by H&M 2. Tweed Driver Hat by GAP 3. Modern Fedora by Banana Republic

And, onto what we all need to keep ourselves warm: coats and sweaters!  We absolutely love the toggles on option 1.  It’s what makes this jacket extra special. We love the graphic pattern on the cardigan, a new twist on an old favorite.  Also, we simply love leather jackets.  It’s hard not to like a man who is wearing a nice leather jacket. 1. Wool Duffle Jacket by GAP 2. Koto Blanket Striped Cardigan by Urban Outfitters  3. Stockton Racer Jacket by J. Crew
