Homemade Laundry Detergent

At Florence & Millie we love DIY projects that enhance your daily life. I got this recipe from my mom who was looking for simple and cost effective ways to have a “greener” household. This recipe for dry laundry detergent is quick and easy with hardly any prep work.  Most of the ingredients may be foreign to us but they were staples in our grandmothers laundry rooms, so we know they will do the trick and with only four components its great for people with sensitive skin.

1 Fels-Naptha Bar  (5.5 oz)

1 box of washing soda (55 oz)

1  box of Borax (76 oz)

3.5 lbs of Oxy Clean or a substitute brand

a large plastic container with a lid

Grate the Fels-Naptha Bar (you can also cut it into pieces and put it in a food processor). Combine all your ingredients, including the grated bar, into the large container. Add 1-2 heaping tablespoons to each load and your ready to have sweet smelling laundry!
